Friday 5 for 11/5/10

by Ron on November 5, 2010

Guess which giant social network was making news this week? OK, it was Facebook…again. They continue to develop their place-based business and I for one think they are definitely heading in the right direction with that, especially trying to create a link between location and commerce, part of what they announced this week. They also announced a single sign-on using your FB log-in. Not sure how I feel about that. Not something I would use until it shakes out and I see how it works.

Enough of FB though. Here’s this week’s Friday 5:

Hi, I love your weblog. Is there something I can do to receive updates like a subscription or some thing? I’m sorry I’m not familiar with RSS?

I have been a blogger for just over 4 years and manitain and operate 7+ blogs. I never would delete or ban a comment for any reason unless it was blatantly offensive, disrespectful or spam. Arguments and opposed point of views facilitate discussion and a blog is about discussion, if are just writing a story/article without any intention of facilitating communication then just disable comments altogether. That being said, respect and professionalism are necessary. I don’t ever approve hate speech or blatant disrespect on my blog sites. I have always appreciated when my readers pointed out either something I missed in my article or didn’t consider in making my points, it doesn’t happen often but when corrects or retractions are needed I am more than happy to update the post and cite the reader who cased me to correct or retract something.
