Facebook Adds a Polling Tool

by Ron on April 6, 2011

It’s Friday night and you need to decide which restaurant to go to or which outfit to wear or which person to date. How do you figure it out? Poll your friends, and with a new Facebook feature, you can do just that.

I just noticed the feature this morning as I was updating my status on Facebook. It works as you would expect in that you get a form in which enter your question and possible answers. By default, it allows your friends to create their own answers. I think it would probably be better if that weren’t the default, but that’s Facebook for you.

One other thing you should note is that when you create a question, it’s automatically shared with ALL of Facebook. At least Facebook is kind enough to warn you of this. I checked privacy setting to see if there was a setting to change this, but so far I’m not seeing one. (Please leave a comment if I simply missed it).

From a business perspective, this could prove useful as you could poll your customers and ask them their opinions on different products or ideas and see how they fly with your loyal customer base.

While the tool, obviously needs a bit of work, it is a good idea, but in typical Facebook fashion, it may take a while for the privacy part to catch up.
